Mount Saint Mary Academy is proud to recognize the students who have earned their Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification, a credential widely respected by global financial institutions, Fortune 500 companies, and top-tier universities. Congratulations to Lori Anne Co '28, Brielle Dubois '27, Annika Jeena '27, Casey Lynch '28, Kolby Okyne '28, and Gabrielle Sangillo '28.
This achievement is a cornerstone of the Academy's longstanding commitment to educating young women in financial literacy, a mission anchored by the Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab established on campus in 2018.
Within the Bloomberg Lab, students familiarize themselves with over 150 terminal functions, exploring complex topics such as economic indicators, currencies, fixed income, commodities, and portfolio management. As part of the Financial Math course instructed by Maggie Milej, students utilize this professional-grade technology to investigate macroeconomic indicators, foreign exchange, and equities.
Notably, all students who take the Financial Math course now have the opportunity to earn their Bloomberg Market Concepts certification. This self-paced program provides a significant head start in the world of finance; teaching students the exact framework professional investors use to make informed decisions.
As a direct result of this training, students have the opportunity to earn their Bloomberg Market Concepts and Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals certificates. These self-paced programs give students a significant head start in the world of finance by teaching them exactly how professional investors make decisions. Through the exploration of real-life scenarios, Mrs. Milej’s students study investment strategies, risk management, and the diverse career paths available across the global finance sector.
The Mount’s financial literacy initiative extends beyond the terminal to include the Working in Support of Education (W!se) Certified Financially Literate™ (CFL™) credential. Students may earn this respected designation by passing the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test, which validates their understanding of essential topics such as credit, debt, taxation, and insurance. This comprehensive curriculum ensures that students master the fundamentals of career planning and budgeting alongside their technical certifications.
Looking ahead, Mount Saint Mary Academy is excited to share that beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, the Bloomberg Lab and certification process will play an integral role in the newly offered AP Business and Personal Finance course. This course ensures students graduate with a high level of financial literacy and a command of the tools used by today’s financial professionals.
