On Thursday morning, the Mount community united in faith during a special Catholic Schools Week Liturgy in Immaculate Conception Chapel led by Monsignor William Benwell. He reminded the students that they should always be grateful for their Catholic School education because it is a gift.
During the Reflection, Courtney Carew '26 (Student Council Executive Board President) read a speech composed by Grace Kelly '26 which emphasized that our school plays a "powerful role in shaping us not only academically but spiritually as well." She said the Mount's rigorous academics being rooted in Catholic values has given her the tools to succeed as her faith is nurtured as a foundation for life. Grace encouraged her peers to share the values learned at the Mount with the world as the Gospel encourages us to do. She feels prepared to "let her light shine" and make a difference in the world because of the educational excellence and faith supported at the Mount.
During the Commissioning of Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Michelle H. Daino (Director of Communications & Marketing) and Linda Eckert P'18 (School Office Manager and Attendance Officer) were recognized and blessed by Monsignor Benwell.
Prior to the conclusion of the Liturgy, members of the community recited the Pledge for Non-Violence, and Sister Lisa Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S., Directress, was presented with a special gift in recognition of her 45 years of vocational service as a Sister of Mercy.
Other Catholic Schools Week activities included: Wednesday) Mounties added red, white, and blue to their uniforms, collected money for the Mercy Girl Effect and enjoyed a Popcorn Bar at lunchtime with sweet and savory toppings. On Thursday, there was an ice cream social with Administration and the Sisters of Mercy, and the Sisters were presented with a special greeting card. The student superlatives, reflecting the Mercy Core Values, were also announced at the Liturgy. On Friday, students vied for victory against members of the faculty and staff during a spirited volleyball game. Throughout the week, the Find the Lion game was enjoyed by all.
