Over the past year, Annika Jeena '28 has been engaged in a variety of service initiatives that have helped her earn the InnerView National Community Service Award. She received the Ambassador Award, and two Zero Hero Awards for aiding efforts for food insecurity and achieving zero waste in her local community. These awards recognize student commitment and activities in support of the United Nations Global Goals.

A rising sophomore, she has organized food drives to address food insecurity, participated in community clean-up efforts to promote environmental sustainability, tutored younger students to support education, and spent time visiting and assisting residents in local nursing homes.

“Through these experiences, I not only had the opportunity to make an impact, but also strengthened my leadership, communication, and organizational skills,” reflected Annika. “Most importantly, these moments of service brought me genuine happiness and a deep sense of gratitude for the ability to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others.”

To receive the award, Annika created a service profile on the InnerView website where she logged in her activities with detailed descriptions and photos.

“When I received news of the recognition, I felt honored and deeply appreciative,” she said. “Being acknowledged on a national level reinforced my want to be committed to service and inspired me to continue pursuing ways to give back.”

“Helping others has always meant a lot to me,” continued Annika. “It’s a way to make a real difference, even in small but meaningful ways. Giving back helps me stay grounded and reminds me to appreciate what I have. Being part of the Mount Saint Mary Academy community has made that even more meaningful. The Mount really encourages service and kindness through its Mercy Core Values, and that’s helped shape the way I approach volunteering. With the support of family and friends, I’ve felt motivated to take on more projects and step up wherever I can.”
