"Check Out" the New Kiosk in the Kennedy Library Media Center

Kathleen Burke, Director of the Kennedy Library Media Center (KLMC), has revealed an exciting addition of a kiosk which makes the navigation of library books easier and has already generated an uptick in book checkouts.

“Visitors to the library can use an iPad perched on a podium to search the fiction and nonfiction books in the Mount’s collection. A simple swipe up on the iPad brings you to the Destiny Discover app, which displays our books by their cover images,” explained Mrs. Burke.

“Using the app, you can search for books by topic, keyword, title, or author, or you may browse the collection by genre,” she added. “You can also see which titles are checked out and which are currently available.

Clicking on a book cover reveals its call number and a brief description. Individuals interested in checking out a book can locate it using the call number or ask me for assistance.”

The kiosk was inspired by the 2025 Mercy Education Conference, according to Mrs. Burke. After taking on her role as KLMC Director last year, she believed that adding a kiosk for perusing the collection would enhance the library experience at the Mount.

“I have wanted to update the library to make it a more accessible, modern space for community members so they can enjoy the resources we offer,” she said. “This kiosk offers a contemporary, interactive way to search our print collection. The app we use for our library catalog has an engaging and user-friendly interface, making it a pleasant browsing experience.”

The presence of the kiosk has already led to an increase in checkouts compared to previous school years.

Mrs. Burke concluded, “My ultimate goal is for our library to be a welcoming space where students, faculty, and staff feel supported and have access to all of the resources they need to achieve their learning goals.”
