On Friday, March 12, Cassandra Cavuoto '22 performed in the Diversity on Ice Show with the American Ice Theater at Bryant Park in New York City.

“It was an honor and a privilege to be invited to skate in the Diversity on Ice Show. Being a part of performing with a select group of international skaters in New York City was exciting and uplifting, not just for me as an individual, but for spectators in the park who cheered the skaters on and enjoyed the blue skies, sunshine, and fresh air,” shared Cassandra.

She added, “It was an amazing feeling to share my talent in a beautiful venue and to raise spirits after this long year.”

Cassandra also learned that she has been recognized by U.S. Figure Skating as one of its 2021 Get Up Champions for having the courage to share her story of overcoming adversity or the story of someone else who inspired her. From these nominations, U.S. Figure Skating will review and select eight Get Up Ambassadors who will serve as the faces of the program for 2021.

“The sport of figure skating has taught me that being a champion is not always about winning, it is about attitude. In my sport, you fall, and you learn that when you fall, you get up, brush yourself off, and keep on going,” said Cassandra.

Involved in the sport of figure skating since the age of 4, Cassandra also demonstrated her figure skating skills during an evening performance at the iconic Rockefeller Center during the first-ever "Rock on Rock!" show which was live-streamed on YouTube on January 12.

“My parents exposed me to gymnastics, ballet, swimming, soccer, and piano lessons. But, from the first day I stepped on the ice during a public skating session with my mom, I fell in love with skating. I love my sport. It has become my passion over the years,” she concluded.
