Stephen Muratore, Mathematics and Computer Science Department Chairperson, announced that two sophomores, Annika Jeena '28 and Mia Durso '28 will move on to the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Level Competition due to be held in March. Eight members of the Mount’s team participated in the regional competition in early December. The competition was held online at the Mount.

Annika and Mia’s hard work during the Introduction to Retail & Merchandising and Introduction to Business Communication competitions earned them the opportunity to compete in March.

The FBLA is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization in the world. Each year, FBLA helps over 230,000 members in middle school, high school, and college prepare for careers in business.

Mount Saint Mary Academy established an FBLA team this year.

Annika participated in the Introduction to Retail & Merchandising competition which challenges members to demonstrate their understanding of fundamental communication skills in a business setting through an objective test. This event introduces concepts such as written and verbal communication, digital messaging, and professional etiquette used to share information within and outside an organization.

Mia tested her skills in the Introduction to Business Communication competition which challenges members to demonstrate their understanding of basic principles in retail operations and merchandising strategies through an objective test. Topics include product placement, inventory control, customer experience, and sales techniques within the retail environment.

Mr. Muratore stated, “We are thrilled to announce that, for the first time, Mount Saint Mary Academy has participated in the FBLA competition events. In our debut year, Mia and Annika demonstrated exceptional mastery of business concepts. Both students placed high enough at the regional competition to proceed to the state competition. As they advance to the state level, we wish them continued success.”
