Dr. David A. Robinson, Distinguished Professor, Department of Geography & New Jersey State Climatologist at Rutgers University, fielded questions and shared insights with Mount students and faculty during a virtual presentation on Wednesday, December 7. The event was hosted by the Mount Saint Mary Academy Weather Club.

Topics included “Understanding NJ Weather & Climate Extremes,” the role of NJWxNet stations, the most important data measure to evaluate weather, and how to understand weather patterns to accurately predict future weather conditions.

The presentation was made possible by Cornelia Rovito '24, who said, “Reaching out to Dr. Robinson, I was unsure I would even get a response. Not only did he reply, but he was extremely enthusiastic about the presentation.”

“It was fascinating to hear about how much weather research is collected in our state every day, and how we as individuals can help participate in these efforts. Dr. Robinson’s passion for climatology was inspiring and his advice, as well as his encouragement, will be used as we continue to develop this club and share our own interest in weather with members of the Mount community.”

“It was a great learning experience,” said Zoe Daly '24. “Talking to someone who is so advanced in the field gave everyone insight on the different directions the club can go in. It also inspired us to start some data collection of our that we can hopefully share with our peers.”

“Dr. Robinson’s presentation was so interesting, and he really taught us a lot about the study of climate specific to New Jersey,” added Victoria Fekete '24. “He was so kind and excited about our plan to begin collecting weather data, and he encouraged us to ‘dive into weather’ and get started!”
