Sister Lisa Gambacorto Receives Proclamation from Watchung Borough

Michelle H. Daino
On the evening of October 23, members of the Mount community joined the Watchung Borough Council at the Municipal Building to honor Sister Lisa Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S. for her over 25 years of service as Directress to Mount Saint Mary Academy. Mayor Ronald Jubin, Ph.D. offered a Proclamation to Sister Lisa as well-wishers looked on.

Mayor Jubin noted that, after a visit to the Academy, he was impressed by Sister Lisa, her service of over a quarter of a century, the Mount campus, and all the school has to offer. He also noted that Mount Saint Mary Academy is older than Watchung Borough.

After Mayor Jubin presented Sister Lisa with her Proclamation and a bouquet of flowers, attendees in the packed council chambers congratulated Sister with thunderous applause.

Sister Lisa said, "I am deeply honored to receive this Proclamation from the Mayor and Municipal Council. The Sisters of Mercy were in Watchung 18 years before the borough was founded and are proud to be part of this community as we continue to educate young women from over 72 towns in New Jersey. So, I share this Proclamation with all of them."

"The Mount is more than a school - it is a sacred space where minds are nurtured, spirits are lifted, and futures are formed," added Sister Lisa. "We are intentional in our teaching of the Core Values of the Sisters of Mercy. I have spent over 35 years serving in this borough and watching it grow. We can look to each other for support and good will, which the world needs a lot more of!"

"Thanks again for your trust, affirmation, and helping all of us at 1645 U.S. Highway 22 believe in the power of community," concluded Sister Lisa. "From my community to yours, I say thank you and God bless you!"
