We Are Mercy: A Week of Celebrating Our Cloak of Mercy

Michelle H. Daino
Throughout the week, the Mount community found ways to honor and illustrate the Mercy Core Values while celebrating the importance of a Mercy spirit and education. The colorful "Cloak of Mercy", which was assembled by Peer Ministers and designed by students, was displayed outside of the Student Center to inspire all and donations were collected for the Interfaith Rise Refugee Center every day.

On Monday, students designed a special work of art for the Sisters of Mercy during their lunch period. They attended a Solidarity Walk on Tuesday during which they reflected on the first-hand experiences of immigrants while visiting different sites on campus. On Wednesday, members of the Student Council presented our Directress, Sister Lisa Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S., with a special framed gift featuring words and phrases that reflect how she demonstrates the Mercy Core Values. Next, Bishop Paul Bootkoski celebrated our Mercy Day Liturgy in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception where Sisters of Mercy renewed their vows and Mercy Associates renewed their pledges. Later that afternoon, the leaders for the 2025-2026 academic year were installed in Chapel. A Refugee Simulation was also held in the Student Center that afternoon.

On Thursday, a group of Mounties attended the March for Life in Trenton and Ms. Monica Roldan spoke to students about mental health and immigration struggles. To conclude the week, students were invited to become advocates for reform by contacting their state and local representatives about key issues.

Thank you to all who made this memorable celebration of Mercy possible this week, most especially Michelle Kovach, Director of Campus Ministry!
