Ms. Roper, Mrs. Honicky Attend NACAC Conference

Michelle H. Daino
Elizabeth Roper, Director of College Counseling, and Eileen Honicky, Assistant Director of College Counseling, attended the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC) annual conference in Baltimore where they joined over 7,000 college admission professionals, college counselors and higher education personnel for three days of valuable learning, engagement, and discussions.

"The conference welcome address was insightful with NACAC CEO Angel Perez, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. The keynote address with Jay Shetty was inspirational and engaging, as he offered words of gratitude and encouragement to attendees and led a guided meditation for all," said Ms. Roper.

Ms. Roper and Mrs. Honicky engaged with colleagues and college admission professionals from across the U.S. and the world, while also participating in educational sessions addressing holistic admission, artificial intelligence, critical information in applications, changes in the college admission process now and for the future, test-optional data, race-conscious admission policies, the power of women’s colleges, and ethical practices in college admission. Meetings and gatherings were hosted by Jesuit and Catholic colleges and universities, NJACAC, NYSACAC, UK Study Expert, Education in Ireland, Marist College, Summit Education Group, and more, which Ms. Roper and Mrs. Honicky attended.

“It was wonderful to represent Mount Saint Mary Academy and re-connect with many colleagues in counseling and admission.  With so many changes and issues in this aspect of education in the United States, it was an amazing opportunity to learn and discuss experiences and ideas at the conference,” stated Ms. Roper.  “Also personally meeting leaders and contributors in the higher education and admission field and in NACAC was amazing. It was an honor to witness the awards to John Mahoney of Boston College and Mary Lou Bates of Skidmore College, two impactful leaders in college admission who have personally influenced me” she added.

This was Mrs. Honicky’s first NACAC conference, “I am so grateful Mount Saint Mary Academy provided this opportunity. I met so many people and am amazed at what a caring, inspirational professional organization we are a part of.  Meeting Angel Perez (CEO of NACAC), Ethan Sawyer (College Essay Guy), Brennan Barnard (Founder, College Guidance Network), and Rick Clark (Assistant Vice Provost of Georgia Tech and co-author with B. Barnard of The Truth About College Admission) were highlights, as well as all the informative educational sessions!”
