Echoes Literary Magazine Earns "Excellent" Designation

Dr. Joseph Bonk, Department of English Chairperson at Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, announced that the 2022 edition of Echoes literary magazinethemed "Refuge," was awarded the designation of “Excellent” by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Program on January 21. The Mount has received distinctions of "Merit," "Excellent," and "Superior" since 2011, according to Dr. Joseph Bonk, English Department Chair and Echoes advisor. 
 
The 2022 Echoes staff included Grace Schwartz ‘22, Reilly Melvin ‘22, Zoe Schack ’24 (returning editor), June Gill ‘24 (returning editor), and Sofiya Piede ‘24 (returning editor).
 
"Finding out that Echoes was awarded the distinction of 'Excellent' was so exciting for our team of editors and staff, who worked tirelessly to compile student submissions, collaborate with the art and English departments, and perfect the publication’s format, down to the font choices and color scheme," said Zoe. "Most of all, though, I’m proud that our magazine could showcase Mounties’ unique talents and perspectives. Receiving this honor isn’t just a result of the Echoes team’s work, but also a testament to the creativity of our entire student body."
