Over Easter break, four students in Cybersecurity Club – Tara Schilke '21, Lauren Kibalo '21, Sarah Murphy '22, and Melani Rodriguez '23 – competed in the National Cyber Scholarship Competition hosted by CyberStart America.

Katherine FitzGerald, mathematics teacher and club advisor, said, "To compete, they had to qualify as semi-finalists in the CyberStart America game, where they worked hard to complete challenging cybersecurity problems in categories including cryptography, digital forensics, open-source intelligence gathering and more. Out of 27,934 students registered across the country, 4,760 students qualified as semi-finalists for this competition. Special congrats to Tara who qualified as a scholarship finalist."

Melani said, "Participating in the CyberStart America Competition and qualifying as a National Cyber Scholarship Semi-Finalist gave me the opportunity to learn many important skills related to cybersecurity, which has sparked an interest for me in this field. I can’t wait to compete next year!”

Students who are interested in learning more about this competition can visit cyberstartamerica.org and join us in Cybersecurity Club next year for more exciting challenges.
