Multicultural Day Celebrates Our Heritage, Traditions
Michelle H. Daino
Organized by members of Mount Saint Mary's Students of Color Affinity (SOCA) and Madeline Albrittain, World Languages Chairperson, our second Multicultural Day was held on October 1 in the Sister Lisa Gambacorto Theater.
Festivities began with a Multicultural Showcase during which students shared various items representative of their identity and culture. These included traditional dress, works of art, musical instruments, books, maps, flags, card games, dance, and more.
Attendees were given passports and had stickers affixed to them after visiting each corresponding table.
Next, 18 different countries/regions were represented at the Multicultural Showcase and 14 different cuisines were shared at the Food Fair during lunch periods. Members of the school community purchased wristbands to participate in the fair which featured delicious catered food which was donated from members of the school community. Thank you also to our Mercy Guild for serving the cuisine during the Fair!
We offer a very special thank you to Mrs. Albrittain and the members of SOCA for organizing Multicultural Day, as well as the sponsors: Fritaille Haitian/American Restaurant, Darby Road Pub, Boss Hog Barbecue, Avon Indian Grill, Olive Branch Educators, Cioffi's of Springfield, and The Greek Store.
