Lieutenant Commander Lindsey Beates (pictured left, United States Naval Academy ‘10, United States Navy Reserve, Blue and Gold Officer), presented Amelia Benjamin ‘24 with her Certificate of Appointment to the United States Naval Academy on the morning of Monday, April 29. Amelia was celebrated in the Parlor of the Mount building while surrounded by her family, school administration, faculty, and friends.

“When I first spoke with Amelia, I was struck by how her accomplishments, of which there are many, were couched in terms of her service to the community and the way the community served her,” said LCDR Beates.

“We have a saying in the Naval Academy that, especially as females, we want to be the woman that we needed as a Plebe. I see in Amelia the woman who’s going to inspire the next generation and who’s going to make that positive impact on the Navy.”

“I think if I had to characterize Amelia using just one word, I would say ‘humility,’” said Directress Sister Lisa D. Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S. (pictured in the inset with Amelia). “From the day she stepped through the doors, she’s been positive, can-do, conscientious, caring, and kind.”

“I’ve always felt a calling to serve and I’ve always wanted to help my community, and I felt that the Naval Academy was the best place to do that,” said Amelia. “I know I want to do something in STEM, so it’s great to go into a STEM-focused school, but the big thing is that I get to expand my leadership abilities, live my values, and help others.”
