Peer Ministry Leaders Share Significance of Kairos Retreat

The spiritual and personal impact of the Mount’s Kairos Retreats has been an integral part of the Academy experience and traditions. Last week, the fall retreatants returned and shared their reflections.

 

Student leader, Phoebe Costalos ’23, said, “The Kairos experience brings Mounties closer and allows them to create tight-knit bonds with different people that they may not cross paths with at school. Kairos helps girls become vulnerable with their peers and grow closer to others, themselves, and God.”

 

“I hope that from my talks, my peers can learn that everyone has struggles, no matter how perfect you think their life may be,” she added. “In order to grow closer to God, you must put in the effort to do so. It does not come easy, and you may find difficulty in trusting in God, but it is all worth it.”

 

After she graduates from the Mount, Phoebe knows that the Kairos experience will have great staying power in her life.

 

“I will cherish the memories I have made on Kairos for the rest of my life,” she said. “I will remember that every person has a story, and it is important to get to know people beyond their masks. I will remember that it is important to take time for yourself to do some reflection on your life to learn more about yourself and God. I will also remember the trusting bonds I have created with my Kai-sisters and will carry them with me beyond graduation.”

 

During the Closing Ceremony, Francesca Salas ‘23 said, “The most important thing that I took away from this retreat was you never truly know what someone is going through. Growing and learning more about myself, my faith, and the strong, powerful girls around me was incredible. Kairos is forever and I have made forever friends.”

 

Stefini Drivas ‘23 added, “While I have been with almost everyone since freshman year, I know I have formed new bonds this week that are stronger than I could have imagined and know I will keep even after we all graduate in June. This has been a life changing experience.”

 

“My Kairos experience has been transformative,” noted Mary Claire Schleck ‘23. “Taking this time to reflect on myself and my relationship with our Savior has truthfully altered my perspective on life and my purpose in this world. As I enter the next chapter of my life in college, I will take this experience with me as a reminder to hold my faith close.”
