Dr. Joseph Bonk, Department of English Chairperson at Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, announced that the 2021-2022 edition of Echoes literary magazinethemed "Ampersand (&)," was one of 17 NJ schools recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in its annual national literary magazine contest.

"Ampersand focused on the interconnectedness we grew to recognize throughout our school and the world," said Reilly Melvin '22. "With my fellow editors, Tara DSilva '21 and Grace Schwartz '22, we worked to create a faithful representation of this. Last year's experience creating Echoes differed from previous years due to the pandemic. But, thanks to the Mount community's brilliant submissions and the dedication of our members, we were able to submit a magazine that we felt encapsulated all of us. We continue to work on the current issue and encourage students (and faculty!) to submit their work."

June Gill '24 added, "Working with the Echoes editors was a great experience for me as a freshman, and the process definitely improved my comfort with brainstorming out loud and collaborating with other Mounties. We’re grateful we were able to publish last year’s edition in time, and we’re excited to start compiling submissions for 2022!"
