Ms. Roper Presents at Winter Institutes of NYSACAC

Michelle H. Daino
Elizabeth Roper, Director of College & School Counseling, participated and presented at the Winter Institutes of NYSACAC (New York State Association of College Admission Counseling) on January 7 and 14. The events were hosted by Cornell University and Syracuse University, respectively, in a virtual format.

Ms. Roper presented with committee members on NACAC (National Association of College Admission Counselors)’s Guide to Ethical Practices in College Admission. She is one of five committee members for the state association, serving the second year of her appointment to the committee.

The presentation reviewed the history of the professional commitment to serving students with ethical and good practices in the college admission process. Recent challenges and dilemmas were presented and discussed with various professionals in college and university admission and college counselors from high schools and community organizations. Educating and advising professionals of the NACAC Guide to Ethical Practices in College Admission allows the profession to maintain the objective of a student-centered and student-serving approach in the admission process.

“I am fortunate I have had a career in college admission and school and college counseling for over 25 years. To have this opportunity to lead and advise others on our association’s commitment to ethical practices is rewarding. Serving on this Committee resonates with the values of Mount Saint Mary Academy, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the Mount among my colleagues in the profession," Ms. Roper shared.

Ms. Roper also participated in the day’s presentations on Effective School Visits, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education and Admissions, and Mental Health and Wellness. New York State ACAC is one of the 23 state/regional associations of the NACAC. Over 2,000 members are in NYSACAC, representing high school- and community-based counselors and college and university admission professionals. The Winter Institutes serve as forums for new professionals to learn from and exchange with leaders in the admission and college counseling profession.
