Respect Life Club Focuses on Human Trafficking

Michelle H. Daino
Last Thursday, S. Jeanne Christensen, RSM, spoke with virtually with members of the Mount's Respect Life Club about her anti-trafficking work. The presentation was arranged by theology teacher, Michelle Kovach.

"I was very moved by S. Jeanne's connection of Human Trafficking to the important Catholic Social Teaching theme of Life and Dignity of the Human Person," said Ms. Kovach. "She spoke on how this crime against humanity views individuals as 'merchandise' rather than their true nature: a person created in the image and likeness of God, who is worth of dignity and respect."

Mei Chiang '22 said, "I knew human trafficking was a problem, but I never understood how big the problem really is. It is astonishing things like this can happen right in front of us without us knowing."

"S. Jeanne offered unique insights on the topic of human trafficking that I had not previously considered," said Diana Neste '22. "I especially appreciated hearing about her work and the potential actions we can take regarding this important issue."

Melissa Ramirez '24 shared, "S. Jeanne created a sense curiosity and awareness in the topic of human trafficking in me. She inspires me to act on this issue and help others for the greater good in my community. In addition, she enhanced my understanding to a higher level of not only the cause, but also how we can protect ourselves and those around us while acting on confidence and courage."
