Spring State was a virtual event that took place this past weekend. This convention brings the JSA year to a close with the election of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of each region. Delegates participated in activities like debate, thought talks, and activism workshops.

Joanne Cadigan-Peters, Social Studies Department Chair and JSA Moderator, said, “JSA is a great way to meet people from across the country who share the same interests. Mount students found this convention to be a valuable learning experience."

"I had so much fun at my first ever JSA Spring State event this past weekend," shared Taryn Murphy '23. "JSA is a club designed to engage youth in politics and government through chapters around the country, and conventions such as this one. We listened to many speakers who work as professors or in the field of government in general and gained more knowledge about their work. My favorite part of the weekend was the debates that I watched and the activism workshops. I have been able to meet so many amazing people through this club and look forward to help grow our Mount Chapter."

Akshaya Karanam '24 added, “Spring State was such a valuable experience, and it was amazing to see people from across the country. Debating was so interesting, and I learned new tactics from others. The National Debate and the Know-Your-Rights workshops were my favorite activities, besides the block debates, and listening to the Hawaiian Governor’s speech. Governor Ige’s words were inspiring and informative. I am eager to attend more events next year.”
