A Brilliant Beginning to a New School Year!

Early this morning, our freshmen were clapped into the Mount Building with thunderous and enthusiastic applause from upperclasswomen, administration, faculty and staff -- a warm welcome and Mount tradition. During Convocation in Chapel, following prayers and an outline of the Mercy Core Values (Principled Leadership, Inspired by Faith, Educational Courage, Compelled by Mercy, and A Voice for Dignity and Respect), which remain an essential component of each student's Mount experience, a special speech was given by S. Lisa Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S. (Directress).

"We are all on this journey together, striving for grace and not perfection. High school is a time of growth, emotionally, spiritually, and physically," reflected S. Lisa. "Many of the decisions you make now will affect the rest of your lives. Make good decisions. Make the most of your Mount experience - find good friends who will motivate you, who are kind, hard-working, and caring." She also encouraged students to prioritize and strike a balance between school work and activities.

"We are Mounties. We are compelled by the spirit of the founder of the Sisters of Mercy - Venerable Catherine McAuley. We pursue challenges to reach our God-given potential," added S. Lisa. "We model faith for a world in desperate need of compassion and kindness. We lead with our unique gifts, and we honor the intrinsic value of the individual and recognize God's presence in each person. Let us remember, we are and always will be Mount Pack!"
