Ms. Roper Presents at NJACAC Conference

Elizabeth Roper, Director of College Counseling, attended the 2022 NJACAC (New Jersey Association of College Admission Counselors) Annual Conference on May 25 and 26. The annual conference brings together college admission professionals, secondary school counselors and educational service providers to connect, exchange and learn.

 

Ms. Roper served on the Planning Committee for the conference and also presented on “Advising Prospective Collegiate Student-Athletes” and “Making Successful Professional Transitions.” She was joined Ryan Shellhammer (Mount Basketball and Golf Coach) for the first presentation, which allowed school counselors, college advisors and college admission professionals to have a greater understanding of the many opportunities students have available to participate in athletics at the collegiate level, and the resources and advisement to assist students and families in regard to academic eligibility and the recruitment processes.

 

A number of educational professionals, some new in their careers and others more experienced, attended the second presentation of "Making Successful Professional Transitions." Ms. Roper was joined by Jenna McAteer (former Mount School Counselor and Academic Advisor at Ocean Community College), Sasha Rashid (School Counselor intern at New Milford High School, former college admission professional), Jennifer Gagis (School Counselor at Rutherford High School) and Dr. Erin Avery (Independent Counselor) to share their own professional journeys and advice in making successful transitions.

It was terrific to re-connect with colleagues in school counseling and college admission and meet in person!" said Ms. Roper. "I am glad I was able to share my knowledge and experiences, along with great colleagues, to contribute to others in our profession so we can all serve our students and families as best possible. And I am always happy to learn more and share ideas at the annual conference. I was also delighted to meet admission professionals from Georgian Court University and Gwynedd Mercy University, a great meeting of Mercy schools!"
