Fathers Club Holds Annual Cavalcade of Golf

Michelle H. Daino
On October 6, the Fathers Club hosted its 46th annual Cavalcade of Golf at Watchung Valley Country Club. It was a beautiful day filled with friendly competition and magnificent autumn views of the mountain course for the 75 golfing participants.

There was a tie for the low gross foursome score at 58 resulting in a negotiated settlement naming two representatives of each team to represent the winners. Each representative was awarded the opportunity to take a 165-yard attempt at a hole-in-one for $100,000. The putting contest winner was Eric Sandstedt who got to attempt a 50-foot put for $5,000. Unfortunately, neither of the super-contests yielded a cash windfall.

Other contest winners included John Fretz (Closed to the Pin), Long Drive - Kelly Gagliano (women's division) / Zach Olim (men's division); and Most Colorfully Dressed: Dan Griffin.

The signature event of the day was the "BEAT THE MOUNTIE" competition in which the field of golfers attempted to beat the Mount's Varsity Golf team on a Par 3 hole. The Mount team was represented by Sophomore Reese Hannon, Senior Reilly Melvin and Coach Ryan Shellhammer. The Mount team defeated over two-thirds of the field.

A great time was had by all. Thank you to all who participated.
