The Metamorphosis of Mercy Hall
Thank you for visiting our page, outlining progress and opportunities to get involved!
Hundreds of alumnae, parents, alumnae parents and friends have contributed to an endeavor that will surely strengthen our Academy in many ways and be in keeping with our Mercy traditions.
Today, we share an exciting opportunity. A Mount graduate, class of 1973, called us to issue a challenge to finish the fundraising component of the campaign. If we raise $50,000 she will match it, and the campaign will be successfully completed! For more information, please contact the Advancement Office – 908-757-0108 x4542.
In the meantime, please take a few minutes to view the project’s progression:
Some naming opportunities are limited. Therefore, please contact the Institutional Advancement
office to confirm that your choice of recognition is still available.
All donations over $100 will be recognized on the donor Wall of Honor.
From two speakers to 16 concealed ceiling speakers, crisp and clear sound delivery will mark every Mercy Hall experience. Microphones, receivers and amplifiers will be operated with new wireless technology both backstage and from the “Lighting and Sound Balcony”.
$30,000 General Lighting
A major component of the auditorium/theater will be the general lighting. 42 new LED lighting fixtures are suspended in a new drywall ceiling. Architect Alex Antonelli has also incorporated cove lighting into our new space, which directs light toward the ceiling from one or more sides of a room to diffuse illumination. This ambient luminescence is found in ledges, recesses, ceiling valences and high on walls, and is popular because it hides the fixture while creating a dramatic effect. Framing the Mercy Hall auditorium to incorporate ledges, pilasters and recesses is taking place during September.
$25,000 Theatrical Lighting
Stage productions, whether they be musical, dramatic, or dance performances, will be supported with lighting operated from the Lighting and Sound Balcony, the ceiling, and from backstage. New cove construction with perimeter LED lighting now adds a warm glow in each of the four ceiling bays. This, combined with new pilasters with floor-to-ceiling light pockets, will create a gentle glow around the room for special events. Performers will be featured in a way that has not previously been possible with professional equipment installed throughout the new space.
Though not visible, technology and wireless are vital to the functionality of the renovated space. The entire 9,000 sq.ft., including the backstage area and the lighting and sound balcony, will feature state-of-the-art technology. A new Lutron dimming system will allow us to literally set the scene: with the touch of a button, we can dim the house lights and bring up the ambient lighting, while also lowering new room-darkening shades.
Mercy Hall's foyer will set an immediate tone for those entering, whether they be students rehearsing for a recital, parents joining in a school function, a bride preparing for her big day, or the Alumnae Association conducting its annual Art Auction. This is also the space that will feature the donor Wall of Honor.
Mercy Hall's stage will be the focal point of the multi-purpose space. From performances to competitions, to an address from the Directress, the larger stage will support enhanced viewing and performing experiences. A new curtain and rigging system, flooring, and the addition of extensive storage below the stage will all contribute to a more visually appealing and functional space.
$50,000 Dressing Rooms
The theater will be home to two renovated dressing rooms for performers, complete with private restrooms, mirrors and everything our stars will need!
Elevated and accessible from a spiral staircase in the rear of Mercy Hall, the 21’ x 9’ Lighting and Sound Balcony will allow us to efficiently and effectively use all the new technology to produce high-quality shows.
