LOCAL SCHOLARSHOPS
Community Foundation of New Jersey – Keith Hightower Scholarship:  Applicants for this scholarship must have participated in science or math competitions or participated in independent scientific research during their high school careers.  The Scholarship will be a grant of not less than $4,000.  For more information, please see MSMA Office of Student Services.  Deadline is May 17, 2010.

SUMMER AND OTHER VARIED PROGRAMS
Berkeley College – Summer Workshop for Career Exploration:  Workshops are designed to give first-hand observations of actual careers and industry-specific knowledge to high school students.  The workshops heighten a student’s career interests and teach essential professional behaviors and job skills.  The following careers are discussed:  Fashion, Interior Design, Criminal Justice, and Business Leadership.  The application deadline is June 4, 2010.  For further information, visit www.BerkeleyCollege.edu/SummerWorkshop.

Biotechnology Summer Institute for High School Students – July 6 – July 28 (Monday thru Thursday – 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Tuition and Fee Cost - $477.50:  This program is an intensive hands-on, laboratory-based biotechnology course in modern DNA analyses and protein purification techniques for high school students.  The course includes a combination of lectures and hand-on lab experiences.  This program is for high school students who have taken chemistry or an honors (or AP) level biology course and is highly motivated and willing to work hard and wants to explore the exciting career opportunities in Biotechnology.  For more information, visit MSMA Office of Student Services.

Drew University – The United Nations Summer Program – July 6 – 22 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday thru Thursday.  A unique opportunity for rising high school seniors and entering college students to learn first-hand about how the United Nations works and the challenges it faces.  Summer UN students will attend UN open meetings, visit think tanks and other NGOs in New York City, tour closed-to-the-public parts of the UN complex.  For an application or more information, visit www.drew.edu/cue/summerUN.

Fairleigh Dickinson University – Summer Scholars Program which includes:
HS Studio at Florham – An Art intensive series of two-week programs to be held the weeks of July 12-23, 2010, and August 2-13, 2010:   The visual arts workshops including film, animation, graphics, and studio art run from July 12-23, 2010 while performing arts workshops in music and acting will take place from August 2-13, 2010.
Computer Teens component held from July 26 – July 29 on the metropolitan campus, encourages students to use computer resources while exploring their college search and planning process.  Students discover four full days of hands-on college and financial aid searches through the Internet along with SAT problem solving and writing tips in addition to experiencing student dining services.

Middlesex County College – GATEway Summer Program – July 6 – July 29, 2010:   A program that offers college-level credit and enrichment courses for academically gifted students who have completed grades 7, 8, or 9.  Classes meet Monday thru Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m. – exact ending times will vary. Courses to be offered are as follows
 Introduction to Computer Science using C++ (Tuition and Course Fees - $595.00) Classes end at 3:00 p.m.
Introduction to Forensic Science (Tuition and Course Fees - $590.00) Classes end at 3:00 p.m.
Basic Chemistry (Tuition and Course Fees - $590.00) Classes end at 3:00 p.m.

Middlesex County College – Science and Technology Preview – June 28 thru July 1 – 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Free Program:  This summer camp will introduce you to non-traditional career opportunities in the chemical process industry.  Come enjoy field trips, hands-on activities and lab experiments that connect to products you use every day.  For more information, visit www.captech.org.

Northwestern University – Center for Talent Development:  The Civic Leadership Institute - Service Learning Programs for Outstanding Middle and High School Students:  A three week summer program for high school students that integrates challenging academics with hands-on service experiences, speakers, and residential fun.  CLI is offered in partnership with Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth and Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development at multiple sites across the country.  For further information, visit www.CivicEducationProject.com.

Overlook Hospital presents Careers in Healthcare – Evenings in May, 2010:  Students are welcome to join Overlook Hospital as they showcase an up close and personal look at various Careers in Healthcare.  The program is as follows:
Monday, May 3:  Infection Prevention and Nursing 101 – Featuring Hospital infection control and an overview of nursing options
Wednesday, May 5:  Surgical Services – Featuring the Operating Room and Anesthesia Services
Tuesday, May 11:  Emergency Medicine – Featuring the Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services
Thursday, May 13:  Rehabilitation Services and Integrative Medicine:  Featuring Physical Therapy and Mind/Body Medicine
The above program will take place at Overlook Hospital, Conference Room 4, 4:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.

Roger Williams University – School of Architecture, Art, and Historic Preservation Summer Academy – July 11 – August 7:  This program is an intensive four-week program for high school students who have completed their junior year.  This program offers a variety of studio, seminar and field experiences, while sharing some extracurricular activities and field trips, allowing students to understand Architecture as an independent activity while experiencing many interdisciplinary potentials.  Architecture studies include Drawing, Architectural Design Studio, Computer Graphics Studio, Sustainable Design and topical lectures.  For application, scholarship and program information, visit www.saahp.rwu.edu/summer_academy.

Silberman College of Business – Fairleigh Dickinson University – Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship:  Discover Business Teen Camp at FDU’s campuses – the College at Florham, located in Madison, NJ, and the Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck/Hackensack, NJ.  The program sessions are July 12 – 16 at College at Florham, Madison, NJ and July 19 – 23 at Metropolitan Campus, Teaneck, NJ.  The hours for the sessions are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.  For more information, visit www.fdu.edu/rothman.
