On the evening of Wednesday, May 10, the Somerset County High School Principals Association, which also operates as the Somerset County Interscholastic Athletic Association, recognized Victoria Gainey, a senior at Mount Saint Mary Academy, as one of its scholar-athletes.
A member of the Academy’s Varsity Volleyball team, Victoria said, “I always strive for my personal best both academically and athletically. It is an honor to be recognized for this and represent the Mount for my achievement." She was one of 17 scholar-athletes to be honored during an awards dinner held on May 10 at the Bridgewater Marriott where Victoria was pictured with her parents Mr. Robert Gainey and Mrs. Karen Gainey.
During her tenure, Victoria was a starting setter captain and led her team to win first place in the Skyland Conference Raritan Division and the NJISAA Independent State Championship for the first time in her school’s history. Additionally, as a junior, Victoria was named to the Skyland Conference All-Stars Second Team Honors and to the Honorable Mention team as a senior, as well as the All-Prep First Team. Aside from her athletic capabilities, Victoria is a high honor student, member of the National Honor Society, and Vice-President of the National Italian Honor Society. She plans to study engineering in college.
