Enduring Mission
An Extraordinary Gift

In 1906, the Sisters of Mercy received a rare gift of mountaintop land from David Kenny on which they built a school to advance the education of young women. It was an extraordinary piece of land over 100 years ago. Today it is home to an outstanding secondary school for young women. Mount Saint Mary Academy is New Jersey's only private, Catholic, independent, college preparatory day school owned and operated by the Sisters of Mercy.

Mount Saint Mary Academy is committed to challenging each student to develop her fullest potential in a Christian atmosphere of love and caring in the tradition of Foundress, Venerable Catherine McAuley, who promoted academic excellence with special concern for women.

Steadfast Values

The changes at the Mount have been great – new and updated buildings, improved and modernized classrooms and labs, high-tech security systems and the latest in computer technology for students and faculty. Yet, at the heart of the Academy, the Mercy core values have remained steadfast. These values – justice, respect, integrity, compassion and service – are absorbed by each student as she journeys through Mount and absorbs all the experiences it has to offer. Every year, a new group of graduates is prepared to face the challenges that are ahead—in college and beyond.
